Don’t Wait For Something To Go Wrong!
Owning a website has its responsibilities, and regular maintenance is a must. As a website owner, you are responsible to ensure your site is secure and up to date. I tell clients that websites are like cars. If you don’t perform the routine maintenance than this can cause a lot of stress, frustration and money in the future. Time to check your engines!
Don’t have an SSL Certificate?
Google is going to flag your website!
SSL Certificates are the latest protocol from Google. Watch this quick video on what an SSL Certificate is and why it’s important.
Contact your hosting company for costs and more details on how to install your SSL. Most hosting companies will do this for you, be careful not to use a 3rd party solicitor!
Website Maintenance Checklist
- Complex Passwords
The more complex your passwords are, the harder they’ll be to guess. You should also consider having a policy where you reset passwords on a consistent basis. - Updated Extensions/Plugins/Themes
If applicable, ensure your WordPress, the themes and plugins are up to date. A database sweep is also recommended for WordPress users. - Current Content
Go over your website, delete outdated information and add fresh information. Check all links, and make sure none are broken or report a 404 page error. - Website Backups
The frequency of your backups will depend upon how often you update your site. Store a backup of your site in a secure location. - Google Registration
Are you registered with Google? If not, you should put this on your priority list and keep this information up to date. This will ensure that all your information/images, etc come up correctly in Google searches.
